Let's get your home inspection ready!

Don’t be put off by the length of this list, it does seem painstakingly long! The good news is, once the majority of works are completed, it’ll be easy to sweep through each area with a quick ‘once over’ and your home will be sparkling in no time. And of course, this is just a guide. Everyone has a completely different day to day living circumstances that need to be taken into consideration. This is our guide to get your property looking its best.

Curb Appeal
  • Mow lawns, weed garden beds and sweep leaves off pathways
  • Trim trees and shrubs that overhang the home or walkways
  • Remove shoes and clutter from the front doorway
  • Clean away cobwebs from around light fittings, pot plants and eaves
  • Pressure wash to remove dirt
  • Hide rubbish bins
  • Remove cars from the driveway, and store caravans, bikes and trailers away
Tip: Bright flowering potted plants can add a welcoming touch
 
General Inside Tips
  • Replace blown light globes and hide electrical cables if possible and turn on all lights including lamps (if you have a dark room add a higher wattage light bulb)
  • Clean windows and screens, sweep floors and remove dust
  • Fully open curtains and blinds to allow light into the home
  • Declutter and remove personal items and picture frames
  • Remove pets and their evidence like food bowls and kitty litter
Tip: Create a warm, light and welcoming space that appeals to the senses

Kitchen
  • Remove appliances from benchtops, remove all dishes and the dish drainer
  • Tea towel, dishcloths, kitchen mats and bins should be stored away
  • Clear away pens and papers, items off the top and on the fridge door as well as keys
  • Clean the cooktop, rangehood and oven
  • Store shopping bags out of sight
Tip: A pleasant smelling scented candle helps eliminates odour in this area
 
Living Room
  • Store away personal items like frames
  • Arrange books, CDs and DVDs neatly or store away
  • Hide remotes, kid’s toys, bean bags, additional furniture and items that clutter the space
  • Remove exercise equipment from this area
  • Excess cushions and additional coffee table items should be removed
Tip: Plants are a great statement piece in living rooms
 
Dining Room
  • Remove tablecloths, placemats and salt and pepper shakers from the table
  • Arrange items in display cabinets/shelves neatly
  • Keep dining chairs to a minimum around the dining table and arrange neatly, store additional chairs
  • Remove papers, notebooks and bills
Tip: Flowers are a nice touch in this area
 
Bathroom
  • Ensure mould is removed from shower, tiles, vanity, walls and the ceiling
  • Clear countertop of toothbrushes/holders, personal items and aerosol cans
  • Remove shampoo/conditioner, soap and other hanging items from the shower and floor
  • Store cosmetics, bath toys, bins, scales, tissue boxes and cleaning products
  • Remove bath towels, bathmats and toilet mats
  • Clean mirror, shower/shower screen, vanity and bath
  • Remove bathrobes and towels from behind doors
Tip: Reed infusers help with odours in this area

Bedrooms
  • Make beds, arrange cushions and throws
  • Store items under the bed from eyesight
  • Remove clothes and personal items from bedside tables and floor
  • Ensure bedside lamps are working
  • Remove soft toys and additional wall posters
  • Minimise additional furniture in the bedrooms
Tip: Allow fresh air to circulate in these areas
 
Study
  • Arrange books, folders, and bookcases neatly
  • Use storage baskets to minimise what is on display
  • Store pens, notebooks, diary, bills, and folders
  • Minimise items on the desk and in the room
Tip: Keep spacious to create the illusion of an additional living or bedroom

Back yard
  • Store away toys and play equipment, or minimise to a corner space
  • Remove washing and pegs off the clothesline
  • Mow lawns, tidy garden beds, sweep pathways and pressure wash
  • Trim trees and shrubs
  • Remove shoes and clutter from the doorways
  • Clean away cobwebs from outdoor entertaining areas, pot plants and eaves
  • Clean up after pets and their evidence
Tip: A gravelled area with fire pit is an easy way to create appeal in a back yard
